The SC-MSC is a six-week adaptation of the empirically supported 8-week Mindful Self-Compassion program designed to cultivate self-compassion skills. In fall 2023 it will be offered for four weeks, two hours per week.
The program was developed by Drs Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer to allow participants to learn a targeted set of MSC practices with less initial time commitment than the complete 26-hour MSC program.
The SC-MSC program draws on mindfulness skills and focuses on developing the resource of self-compassion to enhance our capacity for emotional resilience and well-being. Growing research suggests that self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional well-being, coping with life challenges, lower levels of anxiety and depression, healthy habits such as diet and exercise, and more satisfying personal relationships. It is an inner strength that enables us to be more fully human and authentically ourselves.
The program includes short talks, experiential exercises, group discussions, and informal home practice. SC-MSC is an opportunity to explore how we typically respond when difficulties arise and learn tools for becoming warm and supportive companions to ourselves.
Here are some of the themes that will be explored:

As opposed to other self-care techniques, self-compassion practices can be used on the spot while at work with patients and colleagues. Specifically, participants will learn tools to use throughout the day to:
This program will be available in organizations or to private groups. The minimum number of participants per group is eight.
